Does PIP cover chiropractic care in Washington?
Yes, in most cases. Washington PIP pays reasonable and necessary medical expenses from a car accident when the care comes from a provider licensed under Title 18 RCW, and chiropractors are licensed under it. It covers expenses incurred within three years of the crash (RCW 48.22.005). SoundCare Chiropractic in Woodinville bills your PIP insurer directly, so there is nothing for you to submit.
PIP stands for Personal Injury Protection. It is medical coverage attached to your own auto policy, and it is no-fault — meaning it pays for your treatment regardless of who caused the collision. You open the claim with your own insurance company, not the other driver’s.
In Washington, insurers are required to offer PIP, and it is included on your policy unless you specifically declined it in writing. Many people who assume they do not have it turn out to have it.
It is a separate claim from the one repairing your car. Opening a PIP claim does not slow down, replace, or complicate the property-damage claim you may already have running.
5.0 on Google, and only the visits you need, even when PIP is paying
PIP pays the clinic per visit, which is exactly why it is worth asking how care ends. Here, Dr. Penner tells you after the exam how many visits he expects, and care ends when you are better, not when your PIP limit runs out. No contract, no prepaid plan, and no pressure to keep booking.
Verbatim Google reviews for Dr. Penner. Reviews from SoundCare’s other locations are labeled as such.
I’ve seen Dr. Penner off and on for years now and have always been given good information and received the appropriate treatment that involved only a necessary amount of visits–no pressure to come for weeks and weeks if things were improving; which they always did. Dr. Penner has a calm and friendly manner and is a great communicator.

I came in to see Dr. Penner with severe upper back pain. He was able to adjust my back and get rid of the pain completely in two visits. I had minor adjustments done on a third visit but by then my pain was completely gone.

What PIP pays for, and how much
Washington insurers must offer at least $10,000 in medical and hospital benefits for each injured person, income continuation of up to $200 a week, and a $2,000 funeral benefit (RCW 48.22.095). You may have bought more: the Office of the Insurance Commissioner notes that medical coverage can be raised to $35,000. The $10,000 is the least an insurer must offer, not a cap on your policy.
Coverage limits and terms vary by policy. Your insurer can tell you your exact PIP limit in a two-minute phone call, or call us at 425-215-1880 with your claim number and we will check your benefits before your first visit.
Who PIP covers
PIP follows the policy, not only the driver. It covers the named insured and relatives who live in the same household, anyone riding in the insured car with permission, and a pedestrian struck by it (RCW 48.22.005). One catch the Insurance Commissioner points out: the car you were driving has to be listed on your policy’s declarations page.
What PIP will not pay for
Your insurer can decline care it decides is not reasonable, not necessary, not related to the crash, or received more than three years after it. PIP also does not cover crashes on motorcycles, mopeds, farm equipment or off-road vehicles.
The practical upshot is to be examined early, so the record connects the injury to the crash while the picture is still clear.
How to open a PIP claim: one call, then we bill the insurer
Call your own insurance company
Tell them you were in a collision and you want to open a PIP claim. Do this even if the other driver was clearly at fault, and even if you feel mostly fine. They will give you a claim number.
Bring the claim number to your first visit
That is genuinely all we need: the claim number, the insurer’s name, and the date of the accident. If you do not have it yet, come in anyway and we will sort the billing out afterwards.
We bill the insurer directly
You do not submit paperwork, front the cost, or wait for a reimbursement check. We invoice your PIP carrier for treatment as it happens.

PIP questions people actually ask
Will using PIP raise my premium?
It depends on your insurer and on who caused the crash, so ask them directly before you decide. Worry about premiums is a common reason people skip a benefit they have already paid for, and paying out of pocket to avoid a one-call question is the expensive way to find out.
How long do I have to use PIP?
Three years from the date of the accident. Washington PIP pays medical expenses incurred within that window. That is the outer limit, not a target: recovery usually goes better when treatment starts in the first days rather than the first months.
Does it matter who caused the crash?
No. PIP pays regardless of fault, so you open it with your own insurer and get treated now, instead of waiting months for two insurance companies to settle who pays.
What if I do not have PIP, or already used it up?
Then we treat you the way we treat everyone else. Most private insurance is accepted, and we will check your benefits before you commit to anything. There are no contracts and no prepaid packages here regardless of who is paying.
Do I need a lawyer?
Not to use PIP, and not to be treated here. You open the claim yourself with your own insurer, and being examined and treated does not require a lawyer. Whether to hire one for the rest of your claim is your call, not ours, and we do not take a referral fee either way.
I declined PIP years ago. Do I have it now?
Probably not, unless someone on the policy has asked for it in writing since. A written rejection carries over to renewals and replacement policies until a named insured requests PIP in writing (RCW 48.22.085). If you are not sure, your insurer can tell you in one call.
Are my passengers covered?
Yes, in most cases. PIP covers anyone riding in the insured car with your permission, and relatives who live with you, each under their own benefit limit. Each of them can be treated here the same way.
Do I pay anything at the visit?
We bill your auto insurer directly, so there is no claim for you to file and no reimbursement to wait for. Whether anything is left for you to pay depends on your policy. If you want to know your limit first, call 425-215-1880 with your claim number and we will check your benefits before your first visit.
