Does the Woodinville clinic take my insurance?
We accept most private insurance plans. Because chiropractic coverage varies a great deal between plans — in the number of visits, the copay, and whether a deductible applies first — the only reliable answer is a specific one about your policy.
Call or email with your insurer and member ID and we will check your benefits and tell you what to expect before your first visit. It is a normal request, not an imposition, and it saves an awkward conversation later.
Does Washington health insurance cover chiropractic care?
Often, yes. Washington law (RCW 48.43.045) requires health plans issued in the state to “permit every category of health care provider” to deliver the services the plan covers, within each provider’s scope of practice. Chiropractors are one of those categories. The law does not set your visit limit, copay or deductible. Your plan sets those, which is why the benefits check is worth the phone call.
After a car accident, we bill your auto insurance directly
Treatment after a collision is usually covered by Personal Injury Protection on your own auto policy — no-fault coverage that applies even when the other driver caused the crash. We bill your auto insurer directly, so there is no paperwork for you and nothing to pay up front.
No chiropractic coverage? Pay per visit, or use HSA or FSA funds
What you will never be asked to do
Sign a contract. Prepay for a block of visits. Commit to a schedule of care before you have been examined. Keep booking after you are better.
This holds whoever is paying — including when an insurer is footing the bill and there would be no cost to you in carrying on. When you are done, Dr. Penner will say so.
5.0 on Google for the Woodinville clinic, with no review below five stars. Two of them, verbatim:
I’ve seen Dr. Penner off and on for years now and have always been given good information and received the appropriate treatment that involved only a necessary amount of visits–no pressure to come for weeks and weeks if things were improving; which they always did. Dr. Penner has a calm and friendly manner and is a great communicator.
Deborah Ferguson · Woodinville
Highly recommend Dr. Penner. In addition to being knowledgeable, he is intentional in asking questions to understand what’s going on and how he can help. Also appreciated him recommending stretches to help improve mobility at home.

Insurance questions, answered plainly
Which insurance plans does the Woodinville clinic accept?
Most private insurance plans, plus auto insurance (PIP) after a car accident. Chiropractic coverage varies from plan to plan, so the reliable answer for yours comes from a benefits check: call 425-215-1880 with your insurer and member ID.
Can a chiropractor bill insurance for massage?
Yes. In Washington, massage and trigger point therapy are part of chiropractic care under state law (RCW 18.25.005), and chiropractors may bill for the services the law allows (WAC 246-808-540). At SoundCare, Dr. Penner does the massage himself, alongside the adjustment in the same visit, and it is billed with that visit to your health insurance or, after a car accident, your PIP. Whether your plan pays depends on the plan, so we will check your benefits before your first visit.
What do I need for a benefits check?
For health insurance, your insurer’s name and your member ID. After a car accident, your auto insurer’s name, the PIP claim number and the date of the accident. More on PIP and auto insurance.
Do I need a referral?
Not to book with Dr. Penner. You can book online or by phone. Whether your plan attaches any conditions of its own before it pays is one of the things a benefits check answers.
Will my insurance decide how many visits I have?
No. Your plan may cap how many chiropractic visits it pays for in a year, but that cap is a ceiling, not a target. Dr. Penner recommends visits based on your exam, and care ends when you are better, even if covered visits are left over.
What if my plan doesn't cover chiropractic care?
You can pay per visit. HSA and FSA funds generally work too. Nothing is ever prepaid.
