Back & Neck Pain
A neck that won’t turn, a lower back that seizes when you stand up, an ache that settles in after a week at a desk. Most back and neck pain comes from a stiff joint and the muscles guarding it, each keeping the other stuck, so Dr. Penner treats both in the same visit. If your pain doesn’t behave like a mechanical problem, he tells you early. What a visit involves: back and neck pain treatment.

Headaches
If your headache sits at the back of your head or behind your eyes, builds through the afternoon, and comes with a neck that turns farther one way than the other, your neck is a likely source. Headaches related to neck tension and joint irritation often respond well to hands-on treatment of the upper neck. Migraine and cluster headaches are a different conversation, and a sudden, severe headache means urgent care first. More on neck-related headaches.

Sports & Overuse Injuries
The knee that aches on descents is often a hip that stopped doing its share. The shoulder that pinches overhead is often a stiff upper back. Overuse injuries rarely start where they hurt, which is why rest alone tends to buy you about a week. Dr. Penner, a trail runner himself, treats the joint that quit contributing and gives you loading exercises, and the usual advice on training is modify, not stop. See sports and overuse injury treatment.

Auto Accident Injuries
Neck pain, stiffness and headaches after a crash often show up a day or two later, once the adrenaline fades. An early exam puts what was injured on record while the picture is clear, and in most cases treatment starts that same visit. You don’t need a referral or a lawyer to be seen here, and care ends when you have recovered, not when the insurance runs out. The first steps are on the car accident injury care page.

PIP & Auto Insurance
Personal Injury Protection (PIP) is the medical coverage on your own auto policy in Washington. It is no-fault, so it pays for chiropractic care no matter who caused the crash, it covers care within three years of the accident, and it stays on your policy unless you declined it in writing. We check your benefits and bill your auto insurer directly, so there is nothing for you to submit. The details are on PIP and auto insurance.

Spinal Rehabilitation
Spinal rehabilitation answers the question of what happens after the pain stops. Treatment gets you moving again; rehab is the short list of exercises and habit changes that makes it more likely to stay that way. Expect two or three movements picked for what your exam found, not a forty-minute routine, and usually one fix to how you sit, lift or sleep. Read more about spinal rehabilitation.
Treated on the first visit in most cases, and done when you are better
Every one of these is treated the same way: examine first, explain what was found, and treat on the first visit in most cases. Chiropractic adjustment restores movement to joints that have stopped moving; soft-tissue work releases the muscles guarding them; a few simple exercises keep the change.
And every one of them ends the same way. No contracts, no prepaid packages, and no pressure to keep scheduling once you are doing well.
The reasoning behind that, and what happens on a first visit, is on how we work. For coverage, see insurance and payment: most insurance is accepted, and auto insurance (PIP) is billed directly.

Dr. Joshua Penner helped me with my lower back pain which I have had for over 10 years. It used to vary in intensity , but was persistent, and so affected my lifestyle. His diagnosis and treatment were spot on. He spotted a few other issues and addressed them along the way. After a few weeks of visits, I have been almost back to normal (after 10 years of suffering). I would highly recommend him to anyone needing help with their back/neck.

I went to Dr. Penner for intense headaches related to my neck. The headaches were affecting my work and normal life. He was very patient in trying to diagnose the problem, tried different strategies for treatment and after 5 sessions the headaches were greatly reduced for me to get back to my previous productivity at work and life. He also didn’t try to prolong the treatment like some other practitioners. …

Dr Penner is awesome highly recommend. He is an athlete and so understands athlete problems. I have visited him over many years at different locations when I find ways to injure myself in training and have always had great results. He’s great at teaching exercises that help the healing process and getting back to movement and play.

I’ve seen Dr. Penner off and on for years now and have always been given good information and received the appropriate treatment that involved only a necessary amount of visits–no pressure to come for weeks and weeks if things were improving; which they always did. Dr. Penner has a calm and friendly manner and is a great communicator.
